Hey all! Wondering if anyone watches these anymore - if so... TEAM, let's get back in the habit of posting comments! It's a great resource to be able to uplift one another and also call attention to areas needing correction. Looking forward to seeing your input! :)
Vocalists - harmony-wise, you seemed very well-prepared this weekend, and it definitely came off that way on Sunday morning. Way to come ready to rock like PROS! :) That being said, I think we're getting to a point where we need to start concentrating on the technical aspects of singing - IE: tone, register control between chest/middle/head/falsetto (although if if were a perfect world, there would be NO "registers" with flips or breaks), and blending with whomever your lead vocalist is at the moment. If you have the opportunity, try playing back some past services and seeing how it feels to blend with people who have different vocal qualities. It completely varies from person to person!
For EVERYONE: Something I've found useful and centering is when I journal on the songs I'm preparing for the week. When you do this, the energy you'll bring on Thursday rehearsals/Sunday mornings will be totally different. You'll most likely find yourself laser-focused on sharing with the congregation what God has revealed to you! Maybe you'll discover that when you've got an upbeat song, it's next to impossible to contain your joy and excitement. Or perhaps when there's a ballad that narrates all Jesus has done to redeem our wretchedness, you'll be overcome with emotion that not only shapes your musicality, but also shows in your expressiveness.
I don't want to suggest that we should be forcing our energy and the way we engage the congregation. I just think we should search for ways to allow the Spirit move throughout the entire rehearsal process all the way up to Sunday mornings! :)
Good stuff Emily. Just have to say I notice and enjoy YOUR joy when you are up there singing. Something I just noticed the last few times you've been on stage.
Fuller put it best when he reminded us about "being fully present". Letting go and letting God take control transforms the worship from the stage to a "whole...nutha...level!"
Ya'll are awesome! Some of my friends tuned in to ICampus and commented on how talented our worship team is. Couldn't agree more. To serve among such a gifted bunch of people is a blessing in itself.
Therefore...encourage one another and build each other up just as you are doing!
Melinda - glad your friends were able to tune in to iCampus! I was so glad to see your spoken word again - it's incredible how you have been able to reach the women at the NCCIW and the congregation at our central campus as well as those watching via internet. Thanks for sharing your gift with us! It is evident that you passionately believe what comes out of your mouth.
Also, props to tech - there were some awesome shots during the spoken word moment - I especially liked the one where Mel was in the bottom left hand of the frame. The sound rocked, too! :)
Great insight Emily! Thanks for sharing with us and reminding the importance of evaluating ourselves. It's such a great way for us to reflect and evaluate after the services are done.
Melinda, you are redonkulous!! Your spoken word took the service to another level! Thanks for sharing your hearts & talents with our team.
I am discovering that a lot of folks watch this stream besides our team too. Cool! Including my parents:)
i agree - it's a great way to stay connected and evaluate ourselves.
i thought this was a solid week all around. GREAT camera shots, great stage presence, and susan, your harmonies sounded SO good.
melinda, you know how i feel about you girl, you are amazing and such an inspiration.
i know for me, personally, i felt like it was just okay. it may have been just not feeling all that well, but i just didn't feel great about it. i know what i need to work on and i know that when there are days when you just don't feel great that you look to the Lord for strength and the ability to push through - the Holy Spirit is stronger than anything we could ever imagine and so I know that it's just a matter of looking to Him when we know we need it most.
on another note, something felt weird with the bass - and i know i felt a little bit of feedback in the first service - i didn't hear the feedback in the later services. but the bass felt crazy hard on sunday. like at one point i thought the stage was going to collapse... moreso than usual - i know the bass is always rocking but sunday it felt a little too strong. i know even a couple people that are regular newhope attendees even mentioned it to me that the bass felt a whole long stronger than usual. just thought i'd see if anyone else felt it too?
overall - God did amazing things as usual. this weekend's was my favorite movies sermon so far...
Thanks guys...in the words of the infamous Mollay Bukclay :)...I too, am honored to be a part of this team. Fuller thanks for giving me the opportunity! It's always awesome to serve with the WAM-Fam!
Molly - don't sweat it. You know that's Satan trying to make you feel "just okay" when God is using your gifts to bring others closer to HIM! Like you said...The Holy Spirit is stronger than you imagine and even when you don't feel well...you are going to do nothing less than glorify God when you sing as the Spirit will move through you! Even when you don't feel great!
Emily - can't wait for you to rock out the Coffee House this weekend!
Susan - I agree with Molly - your harmonies were on point!
