Great job leading worship Dustin! Also, vocals by Emily and Dani were solid and on point. Emily, I wanted to comment on the wonderful solo you did on the 23rd. That was probably the best I've ever heard you sing. That was amazing!!! The band also sounded great and the overall mix was just right. The volume was not overwhelming at all. Yesterday was the first time( as part of the audience)that I saw the choir perform. I appreciated their presence and the energy that the choir brought to the worship service. Visually, they added a WHOLE lot but vocally, I couldn't hear a thing:( It would have been nice to hear even just a segment or a few lines where the band drops out and the singers/choir sing. The choir usually rehearses twice to learn parts prior to the performance so they put a lot of effort into this. I reckon that would be encouraging for them to know that they contribute not just visually but also vocally.
Thanks for your comments, Mark! Although Jeanie brought it with the Celebration Choir, we definitely missed you!
Mark, you noted that as part of the congregation, you couldn't hear the choir. As a reference point, what do you think about the choirs levels that you hear on the recording (given it's naturally going to be a bit more raw)?
I agree with Melinda - the choir's energy was amazing, and the uniform colors were SHARP! I liked that for the most part, the band, vocalists, and choir all seemed to color coordinate. I would really like to see that taken into continued consideration. It just makes everyone appear to be on the same page and promotes a sense of unity/team. OBVIOUSLY, our own unique styles are still there! :)
I still need to work on staying in the light. That's nothing new, though...
Dennis, your energy in particular was great! You and Jon were totally in it together, and it was a grand union indeed. (HA, that sounds like a band name.)
The guitar part sounded off at the beginning of "Made Me Glad." It really ran over Dani's vocals... sad! Is everyone (including vocalists) listening to click tracks as well as MP3s to practice?
Everyone - the spirit was clearly moving in that worship center on Sunday morning. You all came very prepared and left room for God to move in your worship leading! I was spiritually recharged!
(oh, and I'm SO STINKING PROUD of my husband. Had to throw that in... yes, I'm biased, but still!)
Emily I think, generally, I hear more vocals(including the choir)on the recordings than during the live performances. For the most part during the live performances inside the worship center, I only hear whoevever is leading the song and not so much the harmonies/back-up vocals. It's interesting though that if you listen out in the lobby, you can hear the vocals so much clearer coming from the TV screens. Anyhow, just a few observations:)
A few things: I heard the choir quite well on this mix, but I didn't hear them like I have in services past (having sang 3 or 4 times with them now). I also felt like the choir was smaller?
The vocals in the eval lately have all sounded like they are going through the house mix and not a direct line (if that makes sense), like the instruments are, or even Pastor BK's mic. If we are evaluating each element, it becomes more difficult to do so when one cannot detect the vocals. Even Dustin's vocals are difficult to hear.
I second Emily- the Click Track is there to practice to and is a big help to me.
Spiritually- I thought Sunday was powerful and it felt like there was a swelling building that day at newhope, almost ready for an explosion. I feel that we are embarking on big things as a worship unit, but could really benefit from discerning the heart of worship (versus the Spirit of Entertainment), but I digress. That is a whole nutha post! When revival hits the worship team, then it will hit the church as a whole! Pray for revival in our heart of hearts!
Before we hit that stage on Sunday I felt a tremendous drawing to repent, as if I should not hit that stage until I am prayed up and repentant. I need cleaned out of all of that gunk that so many times gets in the way of what God is trying to do through me. As a clean vessel, imagine what God can do through us (I imagine a tube with running water, or an unclogged vein). I felt led to share this to my fellow WAMers, my family in Christ. I have grown to love you all so much. Thank you for what you do for the Lover of your soul!
Lucy B. I enjoyed singing with all of you;) I personally would like to be able to hear the choir a little more. However I think everyone did a great job;) We did lose some wonderful ladies that left to attend the Latino service to be able to sing with them. I am Latina too but I felt compelled to stay and sing for all 3 services. I know the future will bring more opportunities to visit the Latino service. Thank you for allowing me the pleasure to praise and worship with all of you! Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next time we can sing together again.
Hey guys! Let me first say how proud I am of Dustin Chappell! The weekend service Worship Leader position comes with TONS of additional responsibilities that most people never even see. He HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK!
Dustin, thank you for your leadership and continued desire to grow in Christ and as a Worship Leader.
It was nice to know that I could go on vacation and trust that things were getting done to the highest standard. You are my armor bearer and I appreciate you tremendously! It is great to see and hear all the positive feedback.
Hey guys, as we post comments it's great to hear all of your awesome feedback.
Keep in mind that our online stream is NOT mixed... we simply put a mic in front of the main speakers and record it. While it is not ideal, it is the only way to do it now efficiently given our current resources. It also allows us to get a "feel" for what happened. It is by no means an accurate representation of what the room sounded like.
However, it is much better than just getting the dry feed off the board which sounds way worse!
As we grow, and God continues to bless us with more resources we will look for ways to make it even more AMAZING!
But for now, thanks for all you guys do. God is changing people's lives through you!!

ReplyDeleteAwesome energy from the choir! You guys and girls are awesome. Dustin- you da man! Em and Dani - beautiful! Band - you rock. Nuff said!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...a little choir soloing might be pretty sweet Mark. Good thought.
