  1. Um... so. Were y'all like unaware that Iron Man was on your back? Was he holding y'all ransom or something? (HA! I crack myself up. BWAHAR.)

Anyway, vocally speaking, I think this group has some great chemistry. Way to go on the blend - most notably in "We Have Overcome"! That's props to vocalists AND sound techs! :)

That being said, I'm a firm believer that there is always being something upon which to improve. I noticed in the verses of "How He Loves," I could hear a few beautiful voices sticking out ... ;) We've gotta make sure we sound as much like one voice as possible, which is incredibly tricky with unison!

I mentioned last week about listening to previous services and recordings to get a sense of blending with different worship leaders. It's also extremely beneficial to consider and convey the emotion behind your lead vocal's voice. What a change in dynamic there is between a song like "We Have Overcome" and "How He Loves." Add to the fact that the lead vocal may be attempting to convey a different emotion than you might have. All this to say - come prepared with your heart bared in your song list, but pay attention and keep your eyes open to what your vocal leader is doing vocally and emotionally.

Last note is regarding energy. I know, I know... I always talk about this... but I wanted to remind vocalists and musicians that you are on camera LOTS. Lots lots lots. Especially those who are up front. And not that we're trying to create something false, but we do have a responsibility to be aware of our facial expressions, body posture, and overall energy level at all times. People are going to notice if you're scratching an itch, adjusting clothing, picking your nose... whatever. LOL. Use the time before a song to center yourself on what you're about to sing or play, and the time afterward to briefly reflect. That way, there's continuity in meanings of songs and an easier transition into the message.

I loved worshiping from the congregation with this team this week! I encourage you to keep up your hard work! Oh, and WELCOME RANDY! We're so excited to have you on board!

  2. One more thing - Jennifer, way to go on picking up "Made Me Glad" last minute! I know that your flexibility is greatly appreciated! You've led us with that song many times before, but it's still not easy to do it off the cuff like that. As always, the passion in your voice was beautifully transparent and authentic. Thanks for what you bring to our team!
