I loved having Ryan Brooks in the house! What an amazing message!
I noticed I need to get up closer on the mic. My volume was inconsistent since I wasn't eating it enough. Also, I'm hearing some parts where I need to adopt a "less is more" attitude. Especially at the beginning of songs like Your Grace is Enough and Reaching For You, I need to let the electric guitar carry those parts for the intros.
John, great job on Roamer! I liked how you frequently got up on the stage near the drums to get good shots.
Steve, I know you didn't like being more open in your position, but you did a GREAT job filling the space! You really engaged the area and took advantage of the more central position.
A word about going chartless: From a musicians standpoint, I welcome the challenge. I've heard how this is intimidating for some of us (myself included), but in hindsight, I found it very freeing on Sunday, giving more room for stylistic flourishes.
I came away knowing I have to work on 1) concentration and 2) thinking ahead (since I play without the 'click'.
Here's the memorization method that worked the best for me...
- loop the set (original mp3s) in my ears to get used to the 'feel' of the order
- play along with each song very simply, not worrying about (but still paying attention to) the embellishments WHILE studying the charts
- 'work in' the embellishments and wean away from the charts until I can GROOVE the simple form with the original mp3s without the charts
- transition to the click tracks, concentrate on groove and selling the section changes
Danny P has amazing energy! Love having you on this team bro!!!

DeletePsalm 100
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before Him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God.
It is He who made us, and we are His;
We are His people, the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise;
Give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the LORD is good and His love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.
